Product Description
• Substations come in different types - power substations step voltages down for distribution, distribution substations further step voltages down for consumers, collector substations aggregate power from generating stations, transmission substations interconnect transmission networks.
• Substations receive 3 phase power. Transformers inside step down or step up the 3 phases - A, B and C - independently.
• Circuit breakers inside a substation protect different feeders and transformers. When a fault occurs, circuit breakers detect it and instantly open to isolate the fault.
• Surge arresters protect substations from high voltage spikes and surges, directing excess voltage to ground. They mitigate damage from lightning strikes.
